Location with history

The Viennese Burggarten conservatory was constructed at the time of the Habsburg dynasty with architectonic elements from late Historicism, Baroque and Art Nouveau. Ludwig von Remy, Imperial and Royal Councillor and Head of the Court Construction Directorate, built a Classicist greenhouse of some 130 metres in length in the Burggarten in the years 1823 to 1826. This was replaced by the new palmery with its well-known Art Nouveau ornaments designed by Court Architect Friedrich Ohmann.

The palmery at the Burggarten in Vienna is a late specimen of the fashion for architectural conservatory construction. The building was partly used as court conservatory, flower room and greenhouse; and served as place for entertainment and relaxation to the emperor.
